The life and mind of Adeline Ong

One of my favourite questions when asking someone about their sexual orientation is,

“Are you hetero, homo, bi or tri?�

“Um, I understand everything but what is Tri?�

“Tri is guy, girl and animal!!!�

To that I either get a bop on the head or have the person laughing hysterically.

About a few months ago, a friend, MK, threw this question to be discussed.

“Will anyone of you consider dating someone of the same gender?�

Almost immediately, there was a wave of “No!� and “Never!�

I kept quiet. I thought about it deeply. To be honest, I am not sure. Personally, I have not been attracted to a person of the same gender before. (Well, unless my highest admiration for Angelina Jolie can be considered that.)

“I might be. Perhaps I have not met the right person, that I will feel attracted to,� I finally answered.

MK nodded. “I am Bi.�

The first time, someone of the same gender approached me with a romantic intention was over 2 years ago. Despite this girl being extremely attractive, I was not attracted to her. A lot of my friends (especially guys), called me, “Chicken!� or asked “Why didn’t you just try it?�

I have kissed girls before out of dares. But have yet to date one. I will not dismiss it as an option but at the moment, I am not attracted to anyone in particular.

The topic of being bi, came up again about 2 weeks ago. Jay, another friend of mine, said that people are just weird. We readily accept girls who are bi but reject the idea of guys being bi.

That is so true. A lot of people I know find the idea of girls being with other girls is very sexy while a guy dating another guy is well, “ICK!!!�

For me, my options are still open.

Another question is, “Any takers?�

It is almost a year now since I declared my sort of retirement from the stage. I switched from acting to directing. After my debut directorial, I realized that I prefer to be on stage again. I can still direct but I prefer to act. I am not shying away from directing but I want to go back to the stage. It is not that I miss the limelight but I find acting very relaxing.

Ever since I dragged my butt all the way from up North to Central Malaysia, every person who knows of my performing background has asked if I was back on stage. When I said I am working as a trainer, they found it extremely odd.

“With the people you know and the opportunities here, you should go back on stage!� Screamed a friend of mine.

But then again, KL is very much different from Penang. Personally, I want to go back to acting. But I promised myself, I will only do that after I have settled down with the move.

Watching various performances lately have made me crave for the stage even more. It is the best rush of adrenaline you can get. Plus, the support I have been getting from my RC team has been really great.

Julie* (Not her real name) is a very pretty girl. She still is. However, Julie over the years became a very different person. She used to be very into her studies and then overnight, she just changed. She began failing and eventually dropped out of school.

Now despite the lack of education, she is somewhat successful in her career. Or she has made many of us to believe. Anyhow, Julie is an addict. She is addicted to almost anything that is well, considered by ‘normal’ society as bad.

Whenever, we mention about Julie’s addictions. A lot of people who knew her were genuinely shocked.

“I knew she was wild but I never knew she was this wild.� Was the common reply I get.

You see, Julie is addicted to sex, alcohol, cigarette, drugs, self mutilation and compulsive shopping. She is basically the walking version of the Seven Deadly Sins. I can’t help but wonder if she got the influence from her ex boyfriend or was it her ex boyfriend who influenced her. (I happen to know the guy and he is also an addict of the mentioned matters)

However, from the outside, we all see that Julie is having it all. Many envy her life. So care free, enjoying everything sinful. Did I mention that this girl eats like a pig but does not gain a single pound?

Despite all that, I wonder if she is doing all these things, to compensate for something she lacks in her life.

Then again, it is not my life and I should not judge. I would so hate it if someone were to judge me.

I found it really amusing that every time when I tell my Malaysian friends, that I met Caucasians and people of other races who were Buddhists.

I always get the same reaction and question, “Can they be Buddhists?�

Apparently, the colour of their skin seems to be the matter.

My question is, if the Lord Buddha and his teachings do not discriminate, why should we, His followers be the same?

I heard about this particular book for the longest time but thought it was a fictional book. After all, the cover does look a bit historical fiction like. It somehow reminded me of the Da Vinci Code.

Anyhow, my brother had the movie and bugged me to watch it. I kept telling him I do not have the time.

It was not until about a month ago, I met Halim at his workplace. He seems more cheerful than ever. I asked him what happened and he began talking about the book, The Secret.
The first thing that came into my mind, “This book again!�

He began gushing over the wonderful tips that was taught in the book. But seeing I was going to move again, I did not want additional items to move, I told him I will get it another day. Days later, a review came out in the local newspaper, talking about the wonderful results the book has produced.

By now, I have forgotten about the movie. And I asked my brother about the book.

He retorted, “When I asked you to watch the movie, you brushed me off. Now the whole world is talking about it, then you believe me.�

Later that day, I watched the movie. I could not grasp the idea that quickly. So for the next few days, I began to study the movie and the lessons that its speakers taught. I diligently took notes and started to practice them.

My favourite so far is the visualization bit. It has happened for me many times and I love it.

I have been asking a lot of people to get the book or the movie. If you practice according, believe me, it will change your life.
