Basic Black

Friday, December 5th, 2008

In one of my previous productions, the role requires me to wear black. I mean, it would make a lot of sense since it is a piece about a two sisters at their father’s funeral.

Now this is me in my bathrobe, standing in front of my closet.

¾ of my closet is filled with black outfits.

“Dang it! I have nothing to wear!

Talk about an ironic situation.

Others would have seen this as a great opportunity to go shopping.

I would have actually gone out and buy myself a new outfit. I have been used to that for low budget or in this case no budget productions. But budget constrains got the best of me and I decided to dig through the dark forest that I call a closet.

What seems to be funny is… The clothes that I used were actually clothes that I wear when I am working backstage. I guess my clothes decided that it is their turn to be in the spotlight for once. Hahaha!!!

Goth Gone Wrong?

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Some of my friends claimed that I am not an authentic Goth.

“Why?

“You wear designer jeans.

“Excuse me?

“You wear designer jeans. Goths don’t do that.

Now, I have never heard that Goths were not allowed to wear anything designer. I am not a designer brand fan but I do buy certain brands because they are the only ones that fit me. My body shape is weird, so sue me. I want to wear clothes that reflect my attitude, identity and my soul. Yet, I do not want to forsake comfort for looking all scary. Make sense?

Alright, I admit that was a major sidetrack.

The way I see it, if Goths are not allowed to wear designer clothes. Does that mean that designers are not allowed to design anything Gothic? Or perhaps even stop having Gothic themed fashion shows.

NIDA year 2

Monday, December 1st, 2008

My NIDA extension course week came and went just like that.
It was great to meet up with the old faces that I have not seen since the last NIDA course we had. We have new teaching staff this year but it was all well and great.
I have improved on my screen acting skills and have taken valuable tips away from this short stint.
I was reunited with my cast members from Bringing Up Sister, Jon and Vimala with Hansen in tow to do Alex’s piece called Hiding.
Once again, the daft blogger in me has not yet bought a camera to capture these memories. I will have to wait for my classmates to post up pictures on Facebook and then pilfer them for the benefit of you readers.
