Looking for home

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I have spent the past five years trying to recreate the experience and happiness of the lone five months I spent in Kentucky.
No one will understand how important it is to me.
To some people, the States is just a tourist destination.
Others, a land where evil is born.
To me, it’s home.
Sad but somehow, I feel more at home in a land on the other side of the world than my own home country.
Five years have passed. I am getting more homesick than ever.

Lessons of 2009

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Wow! Another year has gone by. It means I am one year closer to being in my 30s!!! Aiya!!!
Another year older, another year wiser.

Once again I am compiling the list of lessons I have learnt this past year through both observation and experience. A lot of drama has unfold before me and for some, I am really glad that I was just the observer.

The phrase ‘Keep your friends close and your enemies closer’ – Who the heck came up with that? It is such thinking that has caused people to lose trust in people that are important. There is nothing worse than being suspicious about the people you interact with on a daily basis. Your mind is so filled up with how other people are going to harm you that you do not function properly. Fine, be careful, be aware, thread on eggshells if you must around certain individuals but do not let it consume you to the point of no return.

People around you – There are two types of people that you will come across in your life. The completers and the depleters. Completers are people who encourage you, who make you feel worthy of yourself, who give you the positive energy that you need and all that good stuff. Yes, I am going to go and be super corny by quoting the line, “YOU COMPLETE ME!” from the movie Jerry Macguire. Depleters are just basically the opposite, people who you want to keep away with a restraining order (DO NOT COME WITHIN 100 YARDS OF ME!!!!)

Never mix business with pleasure – Unless you (and the person you are involved with) are matured enough. However, someone told me that being in love can bring out the kid in a person and make you do things that you will regret 5 to 10 years from now. So yeah, I say Naye!!!

Confidence – A good friend (at least I think he is a good friend, he still calls me a stranger. Go figure!) said the worse enemy for a girl is not FAT but the lack of SELF CONFIDENCE.

Being myself – No matter what I do, there will always be critics. So do I feel good about myself when I do things that brings me joy and does not harm anyone? Yes, then what other people think should not matter. And to quote Dr. Seuss “Be who you are and say what you feel. Those who matter won’t mind and those who mind, won’t matter.”

Mistakes – I love mistakes because it gives you the opportunities to learn and better yourself. Sadly there are people who are so worried about making mistakes that they end up making major blunders that will take years to rectify.

Forgiveness – Learn to forgive others because that is the biggest weight you can lift off your own shoulders. You do not need to forget but by forgiving, you will not become vindictive, bitter and most importantly you will repel all negative energy that is associated with the person.

Faith – No matter what religion you are; which God or deity you worship, whether you conform to any conformist forms of believing in a higher being. Learn to have more faith in everyone and everything.

Passion – Do everything with a passion. As many haters there are out there, there are as many or even more believers and supporters.

There are many things I have learnt. But these are my top choices. Enjoy!
