Into the gym… (I am not kidding you)

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Me? A gym bunny?

No way!!!!

Never in a million will I think that I wills sign up for a gym. You can ask anyone who knows me. I have given people countless excuses to get out of signing up for a gym. My friend, Greg has been trying to convince me to try out a gym since we met at a seminar back in April.

Finally 3 weeks ago, I did. My reason (or excuse) will be that it is because the gym was giving a family package. Seems like a good deal at that time. Though a couple of my colleagues are screaming bloody murder because they fear I might have been cheated. I do not blame them because after all, a major yoga chain just went bust and many customers were left in a limbo. Plus hundreds of thousand ringgit in prepaid services were now non-existent.

Before this particular gym share the same fate, may it be now or the future. I am trying my best to make sure I get my money’s worth. Well, I have attended the gym since last week. I took the dance class and capoeira classes which I am loving. I am not sure if I am losing any weight but I did notice that I am no longer hunching.

Then again, it has only been 2 weeks. Let’s see what happens.

An unexpected phone call delivered the news.

“Congratulations, you were chosen!!”

Now, with the rise of tricksters peddling lies, trying to CONvince you that you have won a milllion ringgit has made me wary. I have received 2 such phone calls before.

However, this time it was different. I did enter this.

Early of the month, I submitted my essay on why I should be chosen to participate in this chance of a lifetime workshop. Early this week, I received an e-mail stating that I was unsuccessful. So I just shrugged and continued with life.

On Friday, a call came. I was actually on the waiting list. Lucky me.

Now, I had to chose between work and this. Thank goodness for wonderful employers and supportive colleagues. We managed to work out a schedule and I am on my way for 2 weeks of Screen Acting training.

Thanks to Astro. Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts will be here in KL. Only selected participants are allowed to join.

I can’t wait!

Tibetan-American Amongst those Detained in High Altitude Protest

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Kathmandu – Three Tibetan independence activists, including one Tibetan-American, were detained by Chinese authorities today after demonstrating and unfurling a banner reading “One World, One Dream, Free Tibet 2008” in English, and “Free Tibet” written in Tibetan and Chinese, at Mount Everest’s main base camp in Tibet.

The protest was held on the eve of the International Olympic Committee’s announcement of the final Beijing 2008 Olympic torch relay route and as a Chinese team of climbers prepared a trial ascent of the mountain. If approved, China will take the torch over Mount Everest and through Tibet, a move that Tibetans and their supporters decry as offering international approval to China’s brutal occupation of Tibet.

“The Chinese government hopes to use the 2008 Olympic Games to conceal the brutality of its occupation of Tibet and win the international community’s acceptance as a modern power on the world stage,” said Lhadon Tethong, the Executive Director of Students for a Free Tibet, from Kathmandu. “Mount Everest is not in China, it’s in Tibet, very near where Chinese border guards shot and killed unarmed Tibetan refugees last September. The International Olympic Committee has no business promoting the Chinese government’s political agenda by allowing the torch to be run through Tibet.”

According to an eyewitness report, Chinese authorities detained the three activists, including Tenzin Dorjee, a Tibetan-American, who was wearing a t-shirt that read “No Torch through Tibet.” Prior to his detention, he lit a symbolic torch of Tibetan freedom and sang the Tibetan National Anthem. Tenzin Dorjee is the first known exiled Tibetan to stage a protest inside Tibet. At least one other American has also been detained in conjunction with the protest.

“Tibetans worldwide are looking to the 2008 Beijing Olympics as an unprecedented opportunity to expose the truth about Chinese rule in Tibet,” said Tenzin Choeying, the National Director of Students for a Free Tibet India. “The torch of freedom continues to burn brightly in the hearts and minds of Tibetans everywhere and China can expect more protests of this nature in the months leading up to and during the Games.”

The high altitude demonstration coincided with the eighteenth birthday of the Panchen Lama, Gendhun Choekyi Nyima – Tibetan Buddhism’s most important spiritual leader after the Dalai Lama – and a political prisoner of the Chinese government. He and his family have been held since 1995, when he was only six years old. China has denied all requests by foreign diplomats and United Nations representatives to see him. Tibetans and supporters are staging protests for his release at Chinese embassies and consulates worldwide today.

Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) is a network of young people and activists campaigning for Tibetan independence, with 650 chapters in more than thirty countries worldwide. SFT is based in New York, with offices in Vancouver, London, and Dharamsala, India. SFT is working to shine the Olympic spotlight on China’s occupation of Tibet.

In my search of the true meaning of Goth: Part I

Friday, April 6th, 2007

This is only the first part of my search of the true meaning of Goth.

I am a late bloomer I guess. Or perhaps I am a Non-conformist Conformist.

However, with a few people saying I am Goth and a huge part of me wanting to believe that I am one. (This will explain a lot about myself) I have started ‘researching’ the Goth Scene. I do not wish to be a poser.

My first finds came from Youtube.com

This is one silly video. Sadly, despite the work that is put into it. I do not think that the content reflects the Goth culture. If it had any impact at all, it is quite disappointing. Then again, what do I know?

The interview of Voltaire on “What is Goth?” I read his book of the same title. Yes, V got me reading it. And I loved it, though at that time, I still question my identity as a Goth.

Anyway, this video clip is from the FOX News about the ‘Goth Murder Madness’ in October of 2005.

Too bad the interview was very short.

Oh well, I guess I have to just keep searching…

So this is what I am

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

When I was back in High school, I always wondered what clique my friends and I will be in if we were to be judged by the standards used to classify the Western high schools.

You see, my friends and I can be considered, a class of our own. We were not the popular clique, though we were well known enough around the district. We were not the jocks, though we do not fail terribly in sports. We were not the geeks or the nerds, though we were not dumb either. We fare fairly well in our studies though I have to probably attribute that to the fact that we are Asians.

I would say that we were rather balanced. We were from the top two graduating classes in our year. We held many positions in clubs and societies. Most of us were on the disciplinary board. I was the biggest bitch on campus, being the Head Girl (School President, Captain etc whatever name your school gives it). I am sorry Tash , your buddy here was a prefect. :P

Though a junior once told my friend Sharon that we were in a popular clique, I pondered about that.

I know I have the tendency to get myself into the spotlight because I am rather vocal. I won’t apologize for that. But to consider myself popular is a whole new ball game for me. I know that even throughout my college and university years, I was never a loner.

Though many people have considered me weird for being, well myself. I read the Tarot and the I-Ching. I have a huge collection of New Age books. The fact that I can be planning and speaking about 2 different things at the same time. (I think I have split personalities but then again who cares about us. :D) I have rage issues as well.

No matter what, I am still well liked. At least, I believe I am well liked.

When I was dating my ex, he tried to convince me that I was a Goth. I rejected the idea. Because to me a Goth, was a person with white make up, black lipstick, eyeliner and wore spikes 24/7. Heck, I did not even know he was a Goth. Just for the fact he never fit the stereotyped look of one. At least, the one that I was exposed to. Dating him was rather educational, it opened my eyes to a new world. I am getting in touch with my inner Goth now. My best buddy, Tash , is a Goth too.

When I saw this quiz on her site, I just had to do it. (Plus the fact that I am stressed out beyond words. Which explains why I am having bouts of insomnia and the lack of appetite)

From the quiz, I am tied between being an Emo Kid and a Goth. So I guess my ex was right to a certain degree. Though many will question the validity of such a quiz. But then again, do we need a quiz to tell us who we really are?

However, some parts of me are inclined to believe this. I like the idea of being a Goth. I already have some stuff that are Gothic in nature.

Though now my next mission is to find out what in the world does Emo means. Please note that it is EMO, not Elmo, the furry red creature from Sesame Street.

No matter what the quiz is rather fun.

You scored as Goth. That’s awesome! Go you!

Finally.. PIX

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Finally, some pics of my last LPSM is up on this site. :D

Well, technically I have to take these from u-jean’s site
Why?
Cause no one is sending me any pics!!!

Anyway, this is how the event unfolded. It was my last LPSM. It was mid-day. I was busy trying to get Yu Lian into the coordinator routine. So much to do and so little time. I kind of pity the kid. So there we were, running about. Talking to the vendors, introducing him and explaining my departure. When out of no where, you could hear James Lochhead’s voice breaking the silence.

“Adeline Ong, can you please come to the performance area!”

My heart fell because I thought one of the crew or vendors were in trouble. I rushed to the middle, with Yu Lian in tow. When I reached the stage, nothing was there. I was confused. But when Teresa came out with the cake, I knew what was going on. Personally, I hate surprises. This time, I will make an exception. I was stunned, shocked and before you knew it, the waterwork was on its way.

Throughout the day, I got wishes of good luck and you guessed it, freebies galore from my beloved vendors. In short, it was hard to leave. I have yet to document the cool freebies, I have received. But once I have, I will post up the pictures and label the vendors. (Just in case you are interested in buying similar things at our next market.)

Cinnamon and sugary goodness

The cake is by Teresa Capol of Edelweiss Cafe . Thank you so much, Teresa!!!

Cutting and crying

Cutting and crying… Why can’t I mourn privately?

Pressie from the LPSM

My going away present. I had told the designer, Paridah, of Peabags that I wanted a laptop bag. I loved the design that she made called, “Ella”. Though I loved it, I promised myself not to shop anymore until I declutter my room. However, I kept pestering her to design a laptop bag so I can have an excuse to buy one. This was heard by my beloved boss, Ambi. So, lo and behold, guess what my going away present is, a Peabag!!! The bag was named after me, “Adeline O”. Paridah’s personal gift to me was another bag, “Baby Adeline O”. (Picture to be uploaded)

I will upload pictures and an article on Peabags sometime soon.
Hug!!!
Big hug!!!

Cikgu Baha

Cikgu Baha came for my last LPSM. My face is red because I was crying.

LPSM crew and committee

With the LPSM Crew and Committee. (Most of them at least)

Yu Jean and moi

The person, I need to thank for the photos. Yu Jean!!!

Read Yu Jean’s blog

Wow!!!

In the past 10 months, I ran 13 LPSMs. Can you imagine that? Most of it with my ex in tow. I know that I should not be mentioning him. But it is hard, after all, he was a big part of my life. Though I am not sure if he knew it. With the current circumstances, I guess, it is also a good time to move on. For me, a new career and for him, his new relationship.

I love you all.
See you in the future markets, if I do see you. :)

Hokkien Podcast

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Like many fans of the Internet, I know the existence of Podcasting. But I however was ignorant to the Hokkien Podcast that was started almost two years ago by fellow Penangite, John Ong. (no relations) John is now currently based in the United States and is back for the Lunar New Year Holidays in good old, glorious Penang.

John is an advocate for Podcasting. He told me that everywhere he goes these days, he will strike up a conversation with, “Do you know about Podcast?”

Clever, very clever indeed.

OK, you might be wondering why John’s podcast is different from the others. The reason is simple. It is in Penang styled Hokkien. Now, how many people that you know, that can boast that credential?

John is also nominated as the Celebrity of The Month, for his contribution in promoting Penang Style Hokkien, Podcasting to Malaysians and just being himself.

I have included below, two of John’s website,

The first is PENANG HOKKIEN , which will be added to the Category: All Things Penang. This site is where the Hokkien Podcast is hosted on. Though very fun and no topic restrictions, content might be offensive to some. So users disgression is adviced.

The second is, ONGLINE PODCAST . This will be added under the Category: Alien’s Invansion. I know I would normally classify this as Other Homo Sapiens Online. But John is too quirky to be human. (Oh dear, John is so going to kill me!!)

Anyway, you can catch John LIVE at the Little Penang Street Market on the 25th of February 2007 at the Upper Penang Road.

If you can’t wait that long, you can go to this event instead

Penang Hokkien Golden Pig Reunion
Date: February 20th, 2007
Workshop Time: 4PM to 5:30PM (Venue: CG Computers, Hardwicke House, 67 Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Penang)
Dinner & Fun Time: 7PM to 12AM (Venue: IceIce Baby, 411-A, Burmah Road, Pulau Tikus, Penang)
Workshop is FREE. Dinner is RM20/pax.

We won!!!

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

What a way to celebrate Malaysia’s 50th year by winning the first Amazing Race Asia?

Congratulations, Joe Jer and Zabrina!!

I guess despite them winning the prize, Malaysians would agree with me that we all feel that we have won as well.

Talk about creating history. The first girl team to ever complete the race. The Amazing Race has yet to be won by all female teams. I have never been so excited in my life lately.

I wonder what is next for the both of them. Careers on TV? Endorsing AirAsia? Wow talk about endless possibilities. Perhaps that is the motive of my friend, A. A, told me that entering the show will be excellent exposure on International TV. But I wonder what it did for the models from India or the girlie team from the Phillipines. Oh well.

Despite the fact that Andrew and Syeon finished 3rd. One wonders what the odds that both Malaysian teams will be in the top 3???

OK, now there will be a problem. I wanted to audition for the next The Amazing Race Asia (TARA), but now I am scared. Why? There is so much to live up to. Plus, with the win I bet loads more Malaysians will be vying for the spot to race around Asia.

I also have one problem. Who will be my partner? I have one friend in mind but I am not sure what that person thinks. Perhaps this friend of mine already has another partner!!! ARGH!!!

Anyway, I am so amazed by Sandy and Francessa. After all, they came in dead last in the first round. Now they finished second. Talk about luck or was it skills?

LPSM is back again!!!
